Counselling is an opportunity for you to explore any issues or difficulties you may be experiencing in a safe, supportive and confidential environment, enabling you to understand and change your situation. It does not involve giving advice or directing you to take a particular course of action.

A counsellor is trained to listen carefully, provide acceptance and empathy, to enable you to talk through your problems. They will help you understand your situation and explore the various solutions for change. The counsellor will work with what you disclose and at your pace.

Counselling – Is it for Me?

We all get depressed, anxious, or stressed at some time in our lives. Though these feelings can be very painful they are a normal part of life. At times, we may become overwhelmed and do not feel we can cope. There are often good reasons for such feelings though we do not understand them at the time. There are different ways of getting back on our feet and counselling is one of them.

If you decide to take up counselling a session will be arranged by contacting project office. This will allow you and your counselor to get to know each other and decide if counselling is right for you. There is no obligation to carry on if you do not find it helpful.

Pendle Domestic Violence Initiative has a small team of qualified and trainee counsellors who all receive regular supervision. All our counselors adhere to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Code of Ethics and Practice.

To arrange a free confidential counselling session or find out more, please contact us.
