If you, or someone you know, is experiencing or has experienced domestic violence the Pendle Domestic Violence Initiative Helpline can give you support, help and information over the telephone. Our aim is to enable you to discuss the options available and empower you to make informed choices.

All calls are taken in the strictest confidence by a trained member of staff or volunteer who will offer support, information and a listening ear according to the caller’s needs. They will, for example:

  • Offer you the opportunity to talk through your experiences.
  • Phone you back if you have limited credit or do not want your partner to know you have called the helpline, where appropriate.
  • Listen and provide emotional support and, if appropriate, refer to the counselling service.
  • Refer you to face-to-face support via the support centre or outreach support.
  • Offer information regarding practical issues such as housing, benefits, and legal remedies.
  • Refer you (with or without children) to a refuge or other places of safety throughout the country.
  • Suggest strategies that may reduce the risk of abuse and enable you to feel in control and safe.
  • Send callers information regarding the services available, when safe to do so.

The Helpline can provide a bi-lingual worker (Urdu and Punjabi) for non-English speaking callers.

If the lines are busy there is a voice mail system that enables callers to leave a message. The messages are checked at regular intervals throughout the day and all calls are returned but please leave a safe contact number.
