PENDLE COMMUNITY SAFETY PARTNERSHIP

Pendle’s Community Safety Mission Statement:

"A partnership between agencies and the community that develops safer neighbourhoods, improves the quality of life and reduces the fear of crime for those that live, work and visit Pendle".

Community Safety Partnerships are a statutory requirement of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998. They consist of a variety of organisations that are responsible for the issues of crime and disorder within the communities that they serve.

Members

  • Pendle Borough Council
  • Police
  • Fire and Rescue
  • Health
  • Youth and Community
  • Youth Offending Team
  • Probation Service
  • Education
  • Lancashire County Council
  • Local and County Councillors

The partnership is chaired by Dr Malik.

Each area within Pendle also has local working groups who consist of local councillors and residents. They look at issues at a more local level, which are then fed back to the Steering group.  These working groups are based in Nelson, Colne, Briefield/Reedley, West Craven and Barrowford/Western Parishes.

The Strategy in Brief

Following the last crime audit, it became clear that the specific issues that the residents of Pendle felt needed to be addressed, were those of drugs, vehicle crime, Burglary, violence, anti-social behaviour and Youth nuisance. Burglary, vehicle crime and violence are also issues that are the Best Value crimes as set by the Government.
The next crime audit is due to commence in the near future, in preparation for the next 3 year strategy – 2005 – 2008.
The strategy will again reflect the needs and issues raised by the diverse communities within   Pendle and will outline how the Partnership will deliver the strategy.

Initiatives Within Pendle

There have been a number of successful initiatives in the Pendle area that address a number of issues of concern that have been raised by the communities, along with concerns that have been identified from other sources.  Current initiatives are:

  • Peregrine
  • Accreditation
  • Domestic Violence Forum
  • Health Awareness Project for Pendle Infants
