“Let’s Walk” in Pendle: part of  Healthy Communities in Pendle based at Silverman Hall, Nelson.

“Let’s Walk “ is a community based project encouraging walking and promoting a healthy, active lifestyle. It is part of the national Walking the way to Health scheme and we are working in partnership with Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale Primary Care Trust's Activate.

We have regular walks in Nelson, Brierfield and Colne and we’re setting up walks in Earby and Barnoldswick in the New Year. Some are canal walks (so we don’t USUALLY get lost on these but we never say never)! On a Monday we head towards Lomeshaye and Victoria Park or go the other way and head for Barrowford Locks and try to remember to stop.

Ladies Walking

We also use the Leeds and Liverpool Canal on our walks on Wednesday afternoons. It’s very suitable for people who have decided to become more active and want to start nice and steady and flat!! Also we are planning pushchair-friendly walks with SureStart and the canal bank will be ideal.

We have some real success stories in terms of people getting out and improving their confidence and fitness. Some of our walkers want more of a challenge so we do increase the pace but we are drawing the line at jogging (which someone started to do last week!!).

For a full programme of our free walks, ranging from 30 minutes to two hours please contact Tony Smith:
