Our Runs

Every Sunday there is a choice of two runs, short and long.  Both runs feature frequent tea and a chat stops at country cafes.

The short run is typically up to 40 miles in winter and up to 60 miles in summer. The average cycle computer speed (when the wheels are rolling) is about 9 mph.

The long run is typically up to 70 miles in winter, and 100 miles in summer at an average speed of around 12 mph.

In winter the short run aims to return before it goes dark (however lights should still be carried).

We are currently also running a Medium run and an Extra Short run approximately once a month. We usually recommend that new riders try either the Short run or the Extra Short run initially.

During the summer we also lead a number of Saturday rides, ranging from 15 to 25 miles, run in conjunction with the Pendle Cycle Festival , which are especially suitable for beginners and for younger riders (as long as they are accompanied by an adult).

The places where the rides begin vary according to where the destination is. The meeting places are:

LANGROYD (COLNE)

Outside gates of Langroyd Hall Hotel
HIGHERFORD Bus turning circle
LANESHAWBRIDGE Bus stop opposite Emmott Arms
READ Junction of George Lane and A671
BARNOLDSWICK Co-op car park
HAGGATE Cross roads
HOLME CHAPEL Bus stop near Ram Inn
WALTON LANE (Tuesday evening runs) Roundabout near Hour Glass pub

Some of our destinations might seem a bit obscure(!) but the lunch stop gives you a general idea of where the run is going. Some of the runs might include a short section of "track" (off road), which are generally walked unless easily cycleable. Some rides are car assisted to enable us to visit new areas.

EVERY TUESDAY EVENING we organise a short social ride of approximately 15-20 miles along quiet lanes, with the pace adjusted if new riders are with us. The rides start at 6.30 opposite The Hour Glass pub, Leeds Road, Nelson (at the junction with Walton Lane).  These rides are a good opportunity for new riders to join us.  We cycle for about one and a half hours along quiet country lanes, and finish at the Cross Gaits pub at Blacko for a well earned drink and a chat.

To find out more about our run destinations, see the 'Over the Hills' and 'Hill and Dale' sections of the local weekly papers, giving details of that weekends' runs, see the link below, or better still, contact our Membership and Runs Secretary (click on contacts).

For all rides , a basic tool kit and spare inner tubes should be carried. During the winter months lights should also be carried (unless it is absolutely certain that we will be cycling back in daylight).
