A Nice walk of 2/3k. 150m ascent. Under 2 hours. Medium. Prickle Factor Low.
This is not the Map Ruta 6 but one I found myself starting from the signpost mentioned in Route 1. I would be interested to learn where the main paths continuing in the Ojen direction go!
I did this in August when there were numerous gorgeous colchicum in flower. I don’t recommend it in the opposite (anti-clockwise) direction simply because you will find it hard to discover the path in this direction. It’s a nice outing for a short day – I did it whilst my daughter was wheeling her daughter to the Mirador – and beat her back.
Start at the sign on the right a half k back down the road from Juanar. Now M…z it was originally the Senda de Martina Marquez – why has it been vandalised? Take this steadily uphill round the mountain eventually overlooking the El Garapala houses and joining the paths up from there.
The path eventually reaches the Puerto de Purla and goes on to where? Before reaching there make your way up the hillside on the right by whatever seems the easiest way to reach the highest point on Cerro Nicolas. Looking south to the neighbouring peak 1019 (I meant to climb this too but have yet to do so) a path – little more than a track – can be seen leading back to Juanar and, in the other direction, possibly to Ojen??
Drop down to this and go right. The path only vanishes about 20m before reaching the junction at Juanar.
