The gym at West Craven Sports centre in Barnoldswick is a much friendlier place for people with health problems. This is due to the inclusive Fitness Initiative.
In shallation of the IFI accredited equipment and extensive training of the staff has made exercising more accessible, This has had a great impact on the community.
The gym has a variety of IFI accredited equipment including a treadmill with a soft mat that is suitable for people with knee problems. The treadmill is also lower then regular treadmills making it easier to get on and off
There is a bike which is lower slung, so it is easier to get on and off, and its good for people with hip problems, this also has wider foot pedals
The IFI accredited equipment has highly visible and tactical controls in black and yellow
The equipment was funded by the sports England lottery fund, north west development agency and west craven together initiative
Anne Meacher, Pendle leisure trust representative said “unwittingly many gyms do not have these facilities for people who are physically impaired, usually impaired deaf people and people with arthritis or any other health problems
People with short term or long term health problems can only benefit by participating in regular exercise at West Craven Sports Centre,
The IFI accredited equipment and the care from our qualified staff and the opportunity to make new friends can make so much difference to peoples lives
