The trust’s Club Development Officer based within the Sports Development Unit can provide local sports clubs with assistance on a variety of issues including:
ClubMark was introduced by Sport England in 2002. ClubMark is a cross-sport quality accreditation for clubs with junior sections. It is vital that these clubs serve young people well. Sports clubs that work with children and young people need and deserve support to improve the quality of work they do so that we all can:
• Ensure the well-being of young people whilst in the care of adults, other than their legal parent(s)/carer(s).
• Enthuse young people to enjoy sport and active recreation to build a healthy and active lifestyle.
• Enable young people to use their leisure time creatively.
• Allow young people to optimise their talents and personal ability.
• Identify and support the development of the most talented young people.
Club Accreditation recognises and values the commitment made by sports clubs to developing high quality, welcoming environment for young participants. The development of clubs that encourage young people to take-up sport, improve their talents, possibly play a leadership role and give them the option to initiate and maintain life-long participation in sport is an essential part of club support.
Club Accreditation aims to:
• Ensure that partners apply core common criteria to ensure that consistent good and minimum operating standards are delivered through all club development and accreditation schemes.
• Empower parent(s)/carer(s) when choosing a club for their children.
• Ensures that accredited clubs are recognised through a common approach to branding.
• Provide a focus around which all organisations involved in sport can come together to share practice in sports clubs with children and young people.
Accreditation is awarded to clubs that comply with minimum operating standards in four key areas:
• The playing programme
• Duty of care and child protection
• Sports equity and ethics
• Club management
Clubs working towards accreditation can receive support and advice from the borough’s Club Development Officer, from their NGB (National Governing Body) and other partners such as CSP (County Sport Partnerships). Circumstances will vary between clubs and sports but the process of accreditation is the same.
Presently football is not part of the ClubMark scheme but has its own stand alone accreditation scheme (Charter Standard). For more information visit www.thefa.com
A handy and useful resource guide for the residents of Pendle that will detail the variety of sports that are on offer, the directory will be developed from the Club Audit process which is currently being undertaken. The directory will be available in both hard copy and electronic copy.
An audit of all sports clubs and activity and members is currently being undertaken by the Sports Development Team, it will be the first real chance to get a ‘snapshot’ of just how much sport goes on around the borough.
The Club Development Group is an interactive group designed for all clubs, sessions include Coach/Volunteer Development, guest speaks and workshops that will benefit the clubs and it’s members.
The Club Development Group will be led by the Sports Development Unit and clubs will not be expected to fill any post within the group, for example, Chairman, Secretary.
We are currently working on the first programme of workshops and seminars, more details will follow.
There are various volunteer schemes available for people want to volunteer in the local sporting community but may not know how to get involved.
