There is something going on every month in Pendle.

Festivals


Pendle celebrates festivals throughout the year with events in the area listed online for every month. The start of the year begins with the Pendle Beer Festival run by the local Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) group. This festival showcases many amazing beers to taste and includes some great entertainment. February also sees the start of the season for Bancroft Mill Steaming Days at Barnoldswick to showcase the preserved industrial heritage of the last working steam mill engine in the area.

Easter is the start of family events at Thornton Hall Farm and other venues across Pendle. June continues with lots of boat rides from Foulridge Canal Cruises, and Colne Gala. The start of summer is celebrated in grand style with the Barrowford Lifestyle Festival. The Trawden Garden Festival in August has a scarecrow trail with a different theme each year. The month also sees a number of great outdoor events, including Barnoldswick Beach and the Trawden Show.


Pendle Cycling Festival

CyclingA great mix of events, the 2016 Pendle Cycling Festival in July saw the launch of the Steven Burke Sports Hub. The Olympic Champion himself was there to launch the new centre, followed by a north west youth race. The festival continued throughout the week, in the lead up to the Tour de France, with guided cycle rides, culminating with the exciting elite cycle race of the Colne Grand Prix in mid July.

Pendle Walking Festival

Pendle's Walking Festival is one of the largest and best in the country. The festival is an annual event that runs from the second Saturday in August and ends the following Sunday. There are guided walks every day to suit walkers of all abilities, ranging from easy walks of a couple of miles to fantastic challenge walks. Full details of all the walks are in a free downloadable Pendle Walking Festival Programme which is available in May/June each year.

Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival

The other big summer festival is the multi-award-winning Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival that takes place close to Colne. Spanning the August Bank Holiday and featuring some of the most talented national and international bands in the world. Running for twenty-seven years, this event that attracts tens of thousands of visitors to the area every year. The 2016 line-up included Coco Montoya, Anson Funderburgh, Davina and The Vagabonds, Billy Boy Arnold, Avery Sunshine, The Climax Blues Band and Nikki Hill.

Autumn and Winter Festivals

September is spiced up by the Nelson Food Festival, and this being witch country, Halloween is not to be missed, with activities, normally at Wycoller Country Park, as well as elsewhere. In October, one of the area’s top vehicle car shows Pendle Powerfest comes to town, held at Rolls-Royce Leisure. Rolls Royce is one of the biggest employers in the area. The Hopeful & Glorious Pendle Art Fair & Open Studio Fair in the beautiful village of Barrowford also in October is a weekend of contemporary art and craft at Higherford Mill Studios and Pendle Heritage Centre.
November sees a number of fantastic Christmas lights switch-on events in many towns throughout the area, including in Barnoldswick, during Lancashire Day in Nelson and at the Colne Food Festival in December.
