Hyndburn Art Satellites

Over the next few months six artists from East Lancashire are working with community groups across Hyndburn on a series of projects that promise to be colorful and exciting. It's all part of Art Satellites, set up by Hyndburn Borough Council to pair the talents of artists with the needs of community groups.

In Accrington:

Marjan Wouda will be creating a sensory garden with Prime Connections in Rishton.

Steve Elliott is working with Lords House Farm to create a carnival float for Accrington Lions Gala.

Alistair Nicholson is working in conjunction with the Healthy Lifestyle Group on a series of ceramic pieces.

Christy Evans is embarking on a project with Carers Link to brighten up their new premises.

In Great Harwood:

Jackie Smith is producing textile banners with First Step and The Luncheon Club for the elderly.

In Huncoat:

The Huncoat Youth Project are painting a mural on the centre's shutters with the help of artist Sheila Smith.

Julie Miles, Project Co-ordinator, says: "We are really pleased with the way Art Satellites is working and fantastic results are already evident".

The results are to be kept for posterity - all the projects are being documented by photographer Rod Young.

A public exhibition of artwork and photographs will be shown in Hyndburn this summer.

Hyndburn Arts Satellites is funded by Arts Council England - North West.
For further information about the project please contact emma.moseley@hyndburnbc.gov.uk.
