Local Nature Reserves (LNRs) are areas managed to conserve and enhance the habitats, types and the variety of plants and animals inclding and rare or important species. These areas are also designated and protected by law from development. They are places for people to visit, enjoy and learn.

Alkincoates Woodland LNR

As of April 2006, Pendle has four designated LNRs and several sites which hope to gain that status.  You can find out more about each site by following the links in this section.  Each offers unique habitats for a variety of local and national species of animals and plants.

The LNRs in Pendle are managed by local community groups and volunteers and funded by a variety of public bodies.
