Black Moss Reservoirs

The Upper and Lower Black Moss Reservoirs are located near the village of Barley, and have been providing water to the Nelson area since the early 20th Century. The reservoirs are owned and managed by United Utilities and offer excellent walking opportunities for those looking for shorter, less challenging routes. Forested areas around the reservoirs and a variety of birdlife make the area popular with birdwatchers and it also provides excellent views across the countryside.

You can download a leaflet detailing a suggested walking route from the United Utilities website. There is also a further leaflet illustrating a walk in the nearby Aitken Wood . Please note that these documents are in PDF format so you will need Adobe Reader intalled on your computer in order to view them.

Ogden Reservoirs

Surrounded by forest and in a location of exceptional beauty, they are an excellent walking location for the more energetic and there are many opportunities for spotting native woodland birds.
