Partnership Achievements


2005

The two credit unions join forces, and become a Pendle Community Credit Union with support from Pendle Partnership.

The new health centre in Nelson is fomally opened by the Duke of Gloucester.

The Whitefield Neighbourhood Nursery opens in June, and provides full time child care provision in the Whitefield are of Nelson.

Pendle Partnership approved funding for the Supply Chain Management Construction project, operated by the East Lancs Chamber of Commerce.  

The Sure Start Waterbridge centre receives Pendle Partnership funding to provide a children's centre in Colne.

Work begins on the new Childrens Centre is Brierfield with funding from Pendle Partnership.

The Schools Plus project is supported by Pendle Partnership, to provide schools in deprived areas with ICT equipment to enhance children's learning.

The SRB4 Programme is completed, and a celebration event was held to mark its achievements.

 

2004

Work begins on new health centre in Nelson at Yarnspinners Wharf following a grant of £750,000 from Pendle Partnership.

A high profile conference celebrates the success of the SRB2 regeneration programme as this programme comes to an end.

The new Christ Church in Nelson opens which includes a community cafe funded by Pendle Partnership.

ERDF funding approved for a Nelson Youth Action Point – providing mentoring activities for young people and promoting community cohesion.

Derek Gascoigne of the Environmental Action group local radio station 2BR’s Local Hero Award for Regeneration Champion. The award is sponsored by Pendle Partnership.

Plans for a new community website – www.pendlelife.co.uk are announced.

Pendle Council’s newly appointed Executive Director of Regeneration Brian Cookson praises the quality of projects supported by the Partnership.

Pendle Partnership signs up to a Community Cohesion Action Plan which is ten launched in with a culinary and musical celebration of diversity in Pendle.

£100,000 Lottery Boost for Canal Regeneration in Pendle followed by Nelson’s first canal event – ‘Our Canal - Our Heritage’.

Work begins on a new neighbourhood nursery at St Mary's following a grant from the Partnership.

Colne Open Door Community Development project produces a funding newsletter to help community groups access a range of local and national funding grants.


2003

Work begins on the Hodge Hut - a facility to support community activities on the Hodge House Allotments in Bradley, Nelson.

The Five Wards Arts and Cultural Project launches the Girls on Film calendar through CED funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Pendle Partnership's E-envoy is successful in getting Pendle signed up to high speed broadband internet connections.

The X r-cade opens at Pendle Leisure Centre in Colne providing interactive exercise bikes in a computer game arcade environment.

The Five Wards Arts and Cultural Project launches the Girls on Film calendar through CED funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Broadband connection into Lomeshaye estate is funded.

Work begins on the new Christ Church in Nelson which will also house a community café funded by Pendle Partnership.

Work begins on a Cyber Cafe in Brierfield with funding pledged from SRB6 and CED funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Official opening of the West Craven Business Park in Earby.

The Canal Small Projects Fund is launched with £145,000 pledged from Pendle Partnership.

Pendle's Community Strategy is approved by the Partnership. The strategy sets out a vision for the borough for the next fifteen years.

New gym equipment funded for the Healthy Communities Project.

SRB6 mid-term evaluation takes place to identify funding priorities for the remaining part of the programme.

Open Door furniture recycling project begins recycling 'white' goods.

Extra money is allocated for town centre promotional work in Nelson and Brierfield.

Money allocated for road safety and safe routes to school.

Enhanced Youth Training project relaunched.

Arts Development Officer starts work with funding from Pendle Partnership.

Funding for the Business Support Initiative is extended.

Schools Liaison Officer starts work at Nelson and Colne College through Partnership funding.

The Wheels within Wheels project is approved providing funding for young people to get involved in youth activities involving wheeled vehicles.

Offspring Nursery in Nelson is allocated funding from the Partnership.

The Pendle Economic Regeneration Programme (PERP) is formally approved by the NWDA.

Consultation on canal regeneration is stepped up.

Business grant for Farmhouse Biscuits is approved.

Pendle Partnership supports the launch of the Pendle Domestic Violence Initiative.

Pendle Canal Co-ordinator is appointed using funding from Pendle Partnership.


2001

EMPOWER - a community project giving Asian young people and parents the chance to learn about education, employment, training and drug abuse is launched.

CED-ERDF-funded public transport schemes aimed to improve access to employment are completed including improvements to Colne and Nelson bus stations, LINKS information kiosks, better pedestrian signage, bus shelter improvements and better access at bus stops.

The Open Door Furniture Recycling project opens in Colne.

Community Adult Education project delivered by Nelson & Colne College commences.

Brierfield Peace Garden unveiled.

Awarded £3million by the NWDA to develop the Pendle Economic Regeneration Programme (PERP).

Chairman of Pendle Partnership - Mr. Dennis Mendoros - receives an honorary OBE for services to industry.

Hollin Bank Mill, Brierfield - work begins on an new outlet shopping centre.

The SHELL STEP Project places Pendle undergraduates with local companies over the summer period to gain Project Management Experience.

Nelson Credit Union and Colne Credit Union have funding approved by the Partnership.

E-Envoy appointed to co-ordinate and promote IT in Pendle.


2000

Pendle Technology Centres in Brierfield, Colne and Nelson open giving people aged 17 and over the chance to learn computer skills.

Ithaad Translation Unit launched.

St. Philips Family Support Centre opens – proving much needed affordable childcare.

FREE smoke alarms given to 1,700 homes in Pendle.

Linden Business Centre, Colne opens.

Awarded £12 million from SRB round 6.

West Craven Business Park - work begins.

Homestart Pendle approved – providing voluntary support for parents.

Construction Springboard launched - a 12 week job/training programme for young people.

Building Bridges - an Interfaith project tackling cultural and religious barriers in Nelson and Brierfield gets underway.

"What Now? On the Move" information vehicle for young people starts work.

The Waterbridge Resource Centre in Colne opens providing a community base for a number of projects, including housing a training and development project, a food co-op, children's nursery and print facility.


1999

Pendle Partnership is awarded £5 million of SRB5 funding for community based projects.

Colne Market Hall's £167,000 renovation completed.

Pendle Young Builders project completes its first renovation.

The Pendle Environmental Action Group is set up by Pendle Partnership and Pendle Borough Council to carry out improvements in the countryside & local towns.

Colne & District Credit Union launched.

Colne Millennium Green - work commences.

Awarded £1.2 million more European cash for Nelson Town Centre improvements.


1998

Pendle Partnership is awarded £2.6 million under SRB round 4 for youth programmes.

Coldwell Activity Centre project commences, providing training, qualifications and educational facilities for young offenders.

Pendle Young Builders project launched - giving young people jobs and training and the chance to renovate run down homes in Pendle.

Pendle Partnership backs the "Barlick Gold" regeneration scheme for Barnoldswick Town Centre.

£1 million regeneration plan for Nelson Town Centre unveiled.

Pendle Partnership is awarded £1.3 million from the European Regional Development Fund to fund projects in Brierfield, Colne and Nelson.


1997

Nelson's Technology Demonstration Centre is revamped to help local companies with product development and competitiveness (now known as Northern Technologies).

Building work starts on the Pendle Business Centre in Nelson and the Pendle Building at Nelson & Colne College - a training centre for small and medium sized enterprises.

"One Step Ahead" launched to help employee development in the local aerospace industry.

GNVQ and NVQ scheme encourages students to investigate the world of industry.

Pendle Options launched giving practical help and careers advice for drugs misusers.


1996

Pendle Partnership is awarded £9.3 million of funding from SRB round 2.
