THE PENDLE WALKING FESTIVAL in 2008 will be for 9 days from Saturday 30th August to Sunday 7th September

BARROWFORD

This is an extremely pleasant walk with no difficulties although care is required route finding in a couple of places where there is no real footpath to be seen. Much of it is by river and canal and it also passes Nogarth Quarry - the only place in Pendle where there is any real rock climbing.

Start:              Pendle Heritage Centre Car Park (863397)

Length:           8k

Height Gain:   About 100m

Time:             3 hours

Grade:           Easy

Barrowford Locks Barrowford's locks may not be as famous as the Bingley Five Rise but in five minutes walk you will pass five of them in a delightful setting
Barrowford lock & old road This is the last one you will reach and is seen looking back from just after you have passed under the old A road
Canal under Motorway Sometimes even Motorways can seem beautiful
The Tolls I don't suppose they seemed cheap at the time and nowadays most roads are even cheaper (well, if you ignore that your rates and taxes have paid for them!)
