This is a fine walk marred only by boggy sections. Goldshaw Booth is a very ancient name – if the parish were formed today I assume it would be called Newchurch. The walks main problem is parking – there are no car parks and only a little street area in Newchurch so if you are even a modest sized party you should park at Barley – it will add about 2k and under an hour – and use the start of that walk (they follow the same path for 600m, 200m from the start of this walk). Some care is needed route finding on the way back, although, if you should get lost, any path leading east under Pendle will get you back to Newchurch.

St Mary's - the Newchurch in Pendle. The church of St Mary the Virgin was rebuilt in 1740 and restored in 1902, when the pitch of the roofs was altered and their stone slabs replaced by slates. |
 |
The clock and (one of) the dates of the restoration of the Tower - 1633. There is a history of the church inside it. |

The other side of the church tower with the "Eye of God" and the second date - 1712 (I'm afraid you can't make it out on this photo - it's to the bottom left of the louvres) |
