THE PENDLE WALKING FESTIVAL in 2008 will be for 9 days from Saturday 30th August to Sunday 7th September

Beating The Bounds - REEDLEY HALLOWS

The main road through Reedley divides it neatly into the urban housing on the east and the rural west. Our walk only takes in this rural part and thus is the second shortest walk of Pendle's parishes. Despite it being boggy in many places (as are all the fields leading down to the Calder from the Padiham by-pass) it is a pleasant walk which can easily be combined with either Old Laund Booth or Higham for a longer day out.

It contains, I believe, our steepest path in what, for me, is Pendle's hidden gem - Spurn Clough. In days of yore there was a delightful path up the Clough but the extension of the sewage works blocked it (and lack of use rapidly returned it to nature) and, after these were completed, it was felt that the necessary work to re-open it could not be carried out as (most deservedly) the clough had become a Biological Heritage Site. Please enjoy it - the flora (particularly in Spring) and fauna can be wonderful. My photos cannot do it justice.
