THE PENDLE WALKING FESTIVAL in 2008 will be for 9 days from Saturday 30th August to Sunday 7th September

2007

What happened in 2007?

Well we had more walks than ever before - and we have an even tougher new Challenge. These Challenge walks have always been extremely popular even in 2006s atrocious weather so we thought you'ld like to go just one more step for mankind further!

We had our usual Three Peaks Challenge - Pendle, Boulsworth and Weets on three of the four days - and to make it easy for you (not to mention responding to your requests) we went up the first two every day and Weets three times. Always using different routes - long and (fairly) short - hard (certainly) and easy (???).

Then there was the West Craven Way on the Saturday and Sunday. In 2006 the weather was so bad that we had to cut about a mile out of the first day so in 2007 we did it all, despite another bad day on the Sunday.  Mind you at least two of the people on the walk liked it so much that they've since redone it with their own groups - all 24 miles in one day! They're tougher than me (certainly younger!).

Also we had The Big Four O - thats the West Craven Way and the Three Peaks.
Hey thats five days did you say? Not at all. Boulsworth & Pendle on the Friday and Monday (take your pick which way round) and Weets as that half mile extension on the West Craven Way (which you wouldn't want to miss anyway would you?). Thats roughly 40 miles of walking.

Talking about the Big Four 0 one leader has suggested that it had nothing to do with 40 miles but that:

Those under 40 will find the pace too slow for them
Suitable for those with waist size 40 or over
Leader has been walking 40+ years but now starting to creak a bit
Egotistic leader !  Minimum 40 patrons needed or walk may be cancelled.

The programme had 9 walks on the Friday, 14 on the Saturday, 14 on Sunday and 7 on Monday. On Friday three in each category. Saturday 3 Hard, 4 Moderate and 7 Easy.  Sunday 3 Hard, 6 Moderate and 5 Easy and Monday 2 Hard and Moderate and 3 Easy. A total of 44 walks. A huge effort from all our volunteer, and unpaid, leaders. Pendle (and surrounding areas) people like their walking, but, all the same, they deserve a huge vote of thanks.

If you want to be kept informed on what's happening email me at the address just below and I'll add you to my mailing list - or keep looking here for updates. If you don't already get a brochure through the post if you let me have your address I'll see you get one. The Brochure is now available and should be in your local Tourist Information Centre (if not, why not?). For a downloadable pdf GO HERE .
