When we talked to children who attended clubs about growing at home they commented that they only had a backyard so they couldn’t grow anything at home. So we applied for some Canal Corridor Funding and the Blooming Backyard was made.
The ‘Blooming Backyard’ was built to offer inspiration, ideas to local people about backyard/container growing and show them what was possible in such a small space. Last year we had 13 different fruits and vegetables growing there. The yard also creates a lot of interest and comments on our open days.

This picture shows a space saving storage unit we designed, we get and old shoe holder and made it look nice then hung it over the back gate. It hold all our gardening essential such as string, scissors, trowels, forks, string, gloves and even a few plants were keep in empty pockets.

This picture is our backyard in August some of the fruits and vegetables you can see are potatoes, mint, celery, pumpkin, runner beans, chives, basil, lettuce, strawberries and onions!
