Grow and Sow - Growing Clubs

Growing Club

The project has 4 designated children’s allotments - 3 in Nelson and 1 in Colne (St Pauls, Hodge House (2) and Gardening Partners).  The project offers children a chance to learn how to plant seeds, how an allotment works and how to care for the needs of plants.  The project co-ordinator Joanne Dootson comments “The children love being on the allotments, they really enjoy watching the seeds that they have planted growing into plants that produce fruit and vegetables.  Most of all they love tasting the food they have grown and being able to take it home”.
During the spring/summer season the project offers Pendle’s children a chance to take part in after school growing clubs.  These clubs give children a chance to grow their own produce and help them to develop skills such as patience, caring, respect and co-operation in a fun, friendly and healthy environment
