Salterforth is divided in two by the main road, both sides being mainly rural. This does make the walk a rather convoluted figure 8 - the advantage is that it can be done as two short walks or, if the weather changes, you can finish at just over half way. The parish does extend further south and west than our route but this would mean a lot of road walking as there are no footpaths (although most is open access land). To make the route more interesting I've stolen just a bit out of other parishes. In good weather the scenery is excellent.
Salterforth was in Yorkshire and thus County Brook is obviously it's southern boundary and, over it, you are entering Lancashire Palatine as signs on the main road proclaim.
