THE PENDLE WALKING FESTIVAL in 2008 will be for 9 days from Saturday 30th August to Sunday 7th September

Friday - day one

I haven't the full numbers yet but certainly there was a record number of walkers for the Festival's first day - pity it was cloudy everywhere and wet on each of the three peaks.

N.B. THESE PICS will open in the SAME WINDOW until our Server fixes the problem so you will have to use  your BACKBUTTON to return

After the opening ceremony the Mayor (do I need to tell you which is he?) dashed up to see the Boulsworth by the Back Door walkers off. David, the leader, is second from the right.

He then went to see off (is that the right phrase?) the Park & Canal walkers - David the leader is the bearded guy in the centre
Meanwhile I met the "So Many Bridges to Cross" party near Laneshaw Bridge but it was so dark that most of my photos were un-usable and leader Roy was already out of sight by the time I took this!
For a short time The Beauty of Bracewell walk lived up to its name and here's just a few of the party (34 strong) on and approaching the brand new Bridleway bridge at Gilbeber
And this one is of them on the wall of the earthworks at Stock
On "Pendle in the Evening" Allan Buck, the Mayor, reached the summit in the rain and cloud - but no chains this time!
Walkers at the start of Beautiful Barrowford - the leader is taking the photo but the girl in the centre foreground is Diane who many will have spoken to when ordering a Brochure from Pendle's Tourist Office

Saturday - Day Two:

A better day all round from the weather viewpoint

Some of the 32 walkers on the first day of the West Craven Way - Ken in the front as befits the leader
Before the Walk to Wonderful Weets with Reg (white hair and specs) in the middle
Simon Entwistle on the left about to start his talk on Colne's Ghosts to just a few of the participants. I've a horrible feeling the glum bloke on the right is me
John on the right about to set off on the Bill Clegg Memorial walk from Ball Grove to Wycoller
Lunch over they're off for the second half of the first leg of the West Craven Way
The Colne Canal Cotton Circular walkers with Millie looking over and after them

Sunday - Day Three:

I've known heavier rain but it was still pretty damp and it was more than just the tops of Pendle's three peaks that was completely lost in cloud. Indeed the walks up Boulsworth had to be abandoned and changed to a lower level one

Off they go in the rain on the West Craven Way's second leg
More rain but they're still excited to be off on the Tunstill Trek
Which goes along the Leeds & Liverpool canal
At the end of the West Craven Way most of the walkers went into the world famous cellars of the Anchor Inn at Salterforth - these are the limestone straws (stalectites) in the cellar
Twins Anne & Jacqui - I understand their companion is Dirty Gertie - whilst Beating Barnoldswick's bounds. Hope no-one is going to ask which is Gertie
Just a few of the 60 walkers celebrating their lunch break (damn, I missed the beer) on the Beating Barnoldswick's Bounds - by now you should recognise the leader!

Monday - Day Four:

The most beautiful day of the Festival and the turnout was more like what could be expected on a Sunday

The start of Way, Way, Way Out - Dave the leader is front right
Peter Short in Pepper Hill Barn, Wycoller before the start of the walk to Viewpoint Rocks
Outside with the Tramper
The Mayor and Mayoress before setting out along Bernulf's Trail - leader Edith is to their left with the clipboard
Ron leading the walkers over one of the Laneshaw Bridge bridges after meeting the Abbot of Lad Law
